You will have to save up for the BR costs. You may get the court fees waived (£150ish) if you are on a low income but the remainder will have to be paid. (£375ish - cannot remember)

Some charities used to offer grants for BR, but thats as rare as hens teeth these days.

Check out your credit reports on Experian and Equifax (£2 each or a free trial, remember to cancel the free trial) to see whats listed. This is not a definitive list of whats owed but should help. Anyhow, all debts are included in your BR petition whether you list them or not (barring the ones that are not included like student loans and CSA debts etc).

Have you taken advice about your BR? Call CCCS or Payplan - you need to weigh up the potential loss of assets.

Do you really mean £26, or £26k ?

You need to owe a minimum of £750 to one lender before they can make you go bankrupt. I would seriously look into other options before you commit to it. It isn't cheap, and is only a 'last resort' really. Speak to one of the debt charities or the CAB for more advice. :)

Just checking. £26 can be a debt mountain to some people.

And how long since you 'acknowledged' the debt, in writing, it’s a long shot, but if it is six years or more..............
Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all …………. :(

If it has been 6 years or more (5 in Scotland I think) since you acknowledged the debt, which means you either paid anything towards the debt or communicated about it - arranging to pay, or postpone payments, or telling them you have moved- then the debt may be what is called 'statue barred'. This means that they cannot take you to court to recover the money, and can't do anything other than hope you don't know this rule.

If this may be the case do not respond to the letter you have got and someone here will point you to a form letter where you ask them to prove that you owe the money and it is not statute barred.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.
