Should I open bank acc pre or post BR?

Hi,

I was wondering what kind people on here would recommend?

Planning BR beginning of next week. I feel I should go tomorrow and open a co op cashminder acc for post BR (heres hoping we'll get one!!) so i can start moving dd's, inform CB and CTC and my DH can inform his work of new acc details as his wages get paid 25th. Im presuming it may take a few days to set up the new acc? If i do this what does the OR do with this account as i would have to give them details of it on the BR forms? Do they freeze it? Could they close it?

Or is it best to open it straight after BR? Problem i think we would have here is not enough time to avoid wages going in to existing bank account, or if asked DH work to pay wages as a cheque we wouldnt have time for it to clear in new account before mortgage is due on 28th?:confused:

    Hi Angie,

    I just applied over the phone on Saturday for the co-op account in readyness for BR, and they told me it would take a 3-4 days to find out if my application was accepted, then 10-14 days to process it all! I think they've got a bit of a backlog...

    Hi, I just opened a co op cashminder account too. It was accepted straightaway and I've had confirmation. Just got to wait for all the paperwork now so that I can set up my direct debits and payments into the account. They told me that when I go bankrupt it is likely not to affect the account at all but if it does then it should only get frozen for 24 hours. I wanted to get it all organised pre bankruptcy.

    Hi. i also got a joint account open pre br, it is a great account. i only wish i opened it sooner as abbey are not as good as co op. hopefully you will get a debit card (visa) rather than electron.
    i have been told that as long as you dont live in brighton, your account will only be frozen as temp measure & will not have to shut down. here hopeing, we will be br 10th sept. roll on.
    BR on 10th september 2009. :shhh::shhh::shhh:

    Hi thanks for all replies

    We have decided to go and open it tomorrow now and hope its not too long to get it up and running.

    Does anyone know if the debit card is accepted at link machines? Our local co op branch is in next town so was hoping to be able to take cash out at other machines? Also any idea if you get internet banking?
