Nearly fell off!!!!

Hi
Have not been around for a bit.
The last few weeks have been awful!! i had a cousin suddenly die of a brain tumour only 10yrs older than me, leaving two kids.
As you can imagine i have been through all sorts of emotions mainly "what's the bloody point"" life's to short.(they weren't short of money money didn't help!!)
During this time my daughter has been home from uni and i have basically spoilt her rotten!! (AND ME!!)
Have even been looking at holidays abroad for us might not be here next year!!(sod the money!!)
However all the while i am looking at holidays i have these horrible liitle voices in my head telling me i can't afford it!! pay off your debts first, (this is coming from all of you who i have spent the last few months taking advice from albeit not directly)
Although i have spent loads i have still managed to pay more than the min required on cc's !
I have also today resumed my menu planning which completely went out of the window.
Hope i haven't waffled to much!!

Well done for getting back ON wagon - we all have blips!
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.
  • Sorry to hear about your cousin. Life is never fair but these type of events often shake us deeply. I think there is nothing wrong with having a little fall from your money saving ways and you are obviously right back on the 'horse'. If you are worried about spending too much and amassing more debt, remember that you can still spoil your daughter without spending too much. I believe that there was a recent survey about childhood happiness and those that came from families without much money, but a lot of love, were happier than those that had lots of money. I think the important thing is spending time together as a family. In years to come it will be those memories of being together that will be remembered. All in all balance is the key.
Now debtfree except for the mortgage!

Awwwww Mom23 :grouphug: I dont think anybody could balme you for 'falling off the wagon' for a while after losing your cousin like that. It must have been a real shock for you and things like that affect everybody differently. It just makes you realise a few things - but I think the DFW in you is still there ;) All the best :)

I agree with the others, we all have moments of weakness and I'm not sure how I would have faired should I have been in your shoes.

Well done for pulling yourself back on to the DFW wagon!

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.
  • Hey mom23,

HUGS, hopefully things will get better from now on. So sorry to hear about your cousin. Don't beat yourself up about spending money, tomorrow is a new day and just take a deep breath and start again money saving....I know you can do it.

Your cousin dying is a huge shock.Well done for not going on a total splurge.
As sweetmoneysaver says memories are important for faqmilies. How about spending some time with yours making/sorting photo albums etc or making a memory pack about your cousin for their children to keep from your views of them.?
Sometimes spending time is more helpful to us than spending £,especially when we feel life is too short.

I think the thing is to get it into perspective. Someone close dying young is a terrible shock, but none of us know how many years we have. And if (fingers crossed) we do have longer, do you want to live quietly or do you want to spend years of your life fighthing county court judgements, unpleasant phonecalls, seeing money disappearing on interest and bank charges.

Now that the first shock is over, I am sure you are doing the right thing by trying to get back on track. Looking at your signature, you have made a great start already, and just think what it will be like when you are debt-free.

Think of it as the same as being on a real diet - a few cream cakes won't hurt, you just have to run around a bit after to get rid of them!
Nothing is irreverisble, as they used to tell me in Weighwatchers - hated them too!!!
Take care and have a good day
