OH sends his tax return 2 WEEKS ago and TODAY receives a response that more tax is due.

Me, same tax office, sent rebate claim for 08/09 2 MONTHS ago and still nothing.

Seems there's only backlogs to give refunds.

That's totally unfair - you're talking about 2 completely different departments in HMRC.

The PAYE processing sections have just had a brand new computer system foisted on them. There was a period of a few weeks in June when the staff had no access to either the old COP system, which was switched off, or the new PAYE service, which was rolled in gradually, and post etc had to be stockpiled until they could work it.
Needless to say, as with all the computer systems our government purchases, there are teething troubles and the staff are having to cope with navigating a completely new set of screens and following new procedures so it's taking longer than expected to catch up on the outstanding post. You will get your refund when they have worked all the post that they received before yours came in.

The SA processing departments had no such change to cope with and that's why your OH got his response first and if he owes tax he doesn't have to pay it until 31st January 2010.

You think 2 months is bad? I sent my tax rebate claim for 07/08 A YEAR ago and still haven't had the rebate... Apparently their computer systems were down for 6 weeks. How unfortunate... :mad:

Pam17 - we just look forward to when SA dept change their computer systems and don't take our tax payments for over 2 months LOL:j
