Yorkie - it's 'not for girls'? Fine, I'll buy a better chocolate.

I always wondered about this advertising slogan! Not being a girl, it doesn't put me off, however I wonder if that's their point... the guys think "Hey I'm not a girl! I better buy it !!!"
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

I can't believe Yorkie had their thinking caps on the day they came up with that one, given that the vast majority of chocolate is bought by women....

I never click on ads on any website... if I'm searching for a product experience has taught me that amazon and play are hard to beat, or to join a specialist forum for the product and that the people on that forum are a much better source of information than any advert!

I have no trust in the sponsored ad links over the rest of the search as a well known malware antivirus scam still appears on the sponsored ads. means google don't care or check to see who they are advertiseing

I have a website and have tried the google 'adwords' but it can be expensive in some markets depending on the dynamics. In my industry for example, (office furniture), i would need to pay 18k per month for a top page 1 position for that very search term. From my own research about 70% of users pass by the sponsered links so this poll will be interesting to compare.

I will say that I don't believe in pushy advertising. More the form of "you typed in something that we sell - just to let you know that we exist. We'll be over here if you need us". I think that works better. The theory I go by is that if you're that hard sell, it looks desperate (and annoying) and is ultimately less effective.

Getting a bit off-topic here, but I urge other Adwords advertisers to make sure you're using a strong password. Ours got hacked, and the hacker spent the entire £15,000 credit card limit in one day. Google were kind enough to give it back on fraud protection, and the second layer of protection is the credit card if that fails - but it's definitely better not to need it.
  • Hey guys - google is free because the ads pay the bills - if no one ever clicked on the ads all the free google stuff would have to be paid for ...

If it's a bank I always click on the link they have to pay for rather than the normal search result.

Feels like a small victory for me when I do it :T
"A bank* is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather and ask for it back when it begins to rain."

(*Unless it's Santander. The branch says they sent you an umbrella 3 times already and don't understand why you don't have it yet and want it back right now!!!)
  • Very interesting thread..
I answered B to the poll as most of the time I am looking to buy online and any sponsored link may screw up the inevitable cashback from quidco etc..
It is not surprising to see that this site appears in the Google ads when looking for money saving tips!!!!
More people are becoming aware of sponsored links and affiliate links for that matter.
How many people on this site are aware that when they click that cheapest quote on confused dot com whether it be car or home insurance etc that on top of the savings they have made they can get another £25 - £120 off again if they go via a cashback site and fill the details in again, this is how confused dot com make their money...;)

    B. I always ignore them (& use only the actual search results) - 47% (4941 votes)
