BR tax code - when should I chase

Due to a mix up by my former employer I was transfered from correct tax code to BR. I wrote to the tax office (I can never get through on the phone) on 8th June. How long should I wait to chase this?

Also with BR, I know that I won't have been getting a personal allowance - but is it the case that the whole pay is charged at 20% or does the higher rate still kick in too?

If you are now employed again, you should ask your new employer for a form P46 which you need to sign to say this is your only job. They will then put you on E code which at least gives you sme tax free allowances.
BR just taxes you at basic rate, not higher rates - you need to be on code OT for this.
Most tax offices have weeks and weeks post on hand. It might be quicker to keep trying to ring them to get on a proper code.

I'm not so fussed about getting the code as I'm not currently working, but more getting the rebate for 08/09.

I will try and call, but honestly I have tried for days on end sometimes and you just get the voicemail message that says they're busy and then cuts you off.
