Does anyone sell healthy, OS style ready meals?

My DM lives alone and has Altzheimers, she can no longer cook for herself. For the last 3 months or so, I have been going round each evening and cooking a meal for her. Sometimes I can reheat a portion of what we are having but she doesn't like spicy foods, pasta or rice. I have also batch cooked especially for her.

I am going away next month and have arranged her care with her CPN but have been told that the carers can only give her shop bought microwavable ready meals

Help please! Sainsbury's only sell one which contains a recognisable portion of veg plus spuds plus meat and that can only be reheated in the oven. I've looked at the Wiltshire Farm Foods site, but the calorie count looks so small that I'm worried the portions will be tiny? She is massivly underweight as it is.

Has anyone any experience of this site or any other?

Are you able to check on the carer situation direct with them, rather than via the CPN? Then at least you would know what's what. I imagine that it may be because they are unsure of reheating anything that does not have printed instructions....

Some of the "steam" ready meals are not too bad, and some can be quite big. try M&S or sainsburys :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

She probably wont want to / be able to eat much anyway , especially in one go , smaller meals with snacks might be the way to go . My mil had dementia and the tailing off of the appetite is normal . Do meals on wheels still exist?

My Nan had them till she died in Dec. The only problem is whether they come at the same time as the carer. My Nan would often be asleep when they knocked the door or wouldn't bother to open/eat them as they were in a tray rather than on a plate.

Are they allowed to heat soup? Some of those fresh soups in cartons are nice.

As someone who worked as a carer it can depend on the ability of the carers. Some are more comfortable just reheating, others would make bacon and eggs or a chop and potato - I used to whip up a cheese omelette at times. But the carers will have a half hour max probably.

Do you have a butcher or greengrocer close by - because a greengrocer near us does HM ready meals for OAPs - braised steak, mash and veggies etc. Otherwise as well as trhe standard meals on wheels, it might be worth contacting the local Methodist Church - round here they provide outreach meals - or might put you in contact with someone who does.
