Tuna Burger- help with low fat way to cook it and not fry.

How can I cook this without frying. Eg what method, what tempurature and about for how long. I don't want to fry because of the extra fat.

"1 and 1/2 cans of tuna drained
1 tbsp of Red Thai curry paste
75g fresh breadcrumbs
a handful of fresh coriander
1 1/2 eggs beaten.
Mix everything together and make into small burgers. Cook in oil until brown on both sides and heated through."

    How about grilling it on 'medium' so that it has chance to heat through before getting 'slightly charred'.

    Or would you consider adding a tiny drop of vegetable/sunflower oil to a frying pan and then wiping it around the pan with a piece of kitchen roll - just enough to moisten the pan a little before very gently cooking (can't really call it frying) the burger?

    Yeah this is your best bet. Fry gently on medium with very little oil. You might even get away with using no oil if you use a non-stick pan in reasonable condition (ie. not years old and burnt like most of mine! :D ) I use a teaspoon of oil for virtually everything, I find a pastry brush is handy for coating the pan base. Another option might be to use a George Foreman type grill if you have one.

    A really good non stick pan should need little more light a wipe with a lil oil on some kitchen paper.
    make sure its hot and it will seal the burger without soaking into it anyway

    Thanks evryone. I will have a go with a non stick pan with very very little oil.

  • Thanks to this thread, I made my own Tuna Burgers tonight (impluse meal) - never had or even heard of them before today... I used:

    serves 2:
    1 tin tuna with sunflower oil (about 130g drained)
    2tsp garlic ginger paste
    1 egg
    1 tbsp breadcrumbs

    fried it in the health grill (unbranded "george forman" grill from aldi) for a few mins, added some cucumber and aldi fake stilton (they ran out of 29p lettuce though...), put it into a bun and it was the MOST delicious burger ever. Not only that, but theres no fat in the health grill, so pretty healthy too.

    Made two burgers, so got one for tommorow as well.

    Oh I think I might try something similar to that.
    We've got one of those gorilla things, came free with something and never been used so far. This could be it's christening pressy!

  • Have you tried putting them in the oven and baking them? I do this with felafels, which are supposed to be fried, and it works quite well
