Chips are now wrapped in white paper as newspaper is now a "health and safety"issue.

Aye we were tuff as t`old boots in t`them days.....I do remember the paper used to get all soggy though...especially if there was loads of vinegar on too :D:D

Can`t ever remember reading any of the newspaper as I was eating the chips ...so even as chip wrappers the BR section was pretty irrelevant.
  • I vaguely remember a fish & chip shop chain having newpaper printed on their wrappings to have the authentic look

must have been non hazourdous ink they used.

I haven't had proper newspaper in years!!!!!

Some places around liverpool STILL use the old newspaper wrappers....ahhhh the memories

Along with bottle of pop from the chippy you got 5p deposit back on when you returned....I made a killing nicking the bottles from the back of the chippy yard walking round the corner & taking them back for a deposit refund...poor guy never did have a clue!

In my local rag, they only report businesses that have gone BR that's how I found out about someone I know that their business had gone. I didn't read it as I don't buy the local rag (honest!) just rely on the freebie that comes through my door and nothing is reported in those.

A mate of mine buys the local and scours it from page to page and tells me all the local gossip!
