Norfrost Freezer - help please

Hi, apologies if I'm posting in the wrong forum?
I have a Norfrost freezer, an old old version. The thermostat dial is confusing me.... Does anyone have one and if so could you advise whether 1, or 7, is the coldest setting? The freezer is not working properly and only half freezing things
In fact, if anyone has a manual thermostat setting on their freezer - could they advise whether the lower the number is the colder it is or vice versa? I imagine these things are very standard!!
I inherited this freezer so I don't have the instruction manuals anymore.

Hi Maggie
I have got a Norfrost freezer which I bought in 2004 so it probably isn't as old as yours but the higher the number the colder the setting. On my instruction leaflet it says that you should switch on the Boost switch and run for at least 4 hours before putting in frozen food.
"Temperature Control - The normal storage temperature of your freezer should be -18 degrees C. The thermostat control should be set to a mid position to obtain the correct temperature for storing already frozen food. This setting may have to be varied depending upon the frequency of opening and closing the lid and for a room temperature in excess of 25 degrees C. Lower temperatures may be obtained at the expense of higher running costs with little corresponding benefit."
I also looked on Google and it is a company called Icetech which makes Norfrost freezers so you may want to contact them to see if they have got an old instruction manual.
Perhaps the thermostat is not working properly if the freezer is very old so maybe it just needs a new thermostat.
Hope this helps.0 -

Hope it helps but don't leave it on 7 for too long! I've got mine set just past the half way mark and it works ok unless I am putting a lot of stuff in then I put the booster on for about 4 hours.0
