Anyone in the Highlands got a caravan or a second home?

I know this is an extremely long shot but desperate times call for desperate measures. :D

During our bathroom refurb, some other pretty serious issues have arisen which mean more work needs done. We have some jazzy 'swinging' walls ..... they're not meant to be swinging, but after stripping plasterboard and going back to the stud frame we've discovered they are literally an inch off the floor and wedged up with a little square of plasterboard which isn't great at holding the wall steady. We've been trying to live and work around the situation but it's clear that it's just not do-able and in order to get the work dealt with quickly, we really need to move out and have the place stripped.

I need to find somewhere that we can rent for a couple of weeks in or around the Inverness/Dingwall/Back Isle/Tain kind of areas. It also has to be accepting of pets as we have a dog. (Very calm, quiet animal but many places wont tolerate any animals at all which is narrowing our options.)

So, anyone got anything for rent? Or any suggestions as to where to try? I'm assuming estate agents wont help with such a short term thing as this and holiday let places charge huge holiday let prices. I've been looking at private caravan/holiday home rental but there seems to be very little around here.

We have a tent but I can't bring myself to camp out for a fortnight. I'm getting too old. :rotfl:

Any ideas please? :D

Had a quick look on the VisitScotland website and found this place http://guide.visitscotland.com/vs/guide/5,en,SCH1/objectId,ACC35832Svs,curr,GBP,season,at1,selectedEntry,home,topNav,1/home.html#contactDetails
No mention of prices but do allow pets and is in the area your looking for
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.

Thanks Matt...tried calling there and phone number has been changed to a mobile number which just rings out.

  • How about contacting your local council and telling them that you will be temporarily homeless, they might take pity on you. If you have children you could tell them that the house is a danger.

Lol.....I know I said drastic measures.....but that's a bit extreme. :D They would just tell us to move into a hotel or a B&B.

Check your home/buildings insurance to see if they would pay for it.;)

I know a family who stayed in a local (nice) hotel while their home was having fire damaged stuff replaced after their neighbours had a fire, the hotel was being paid for by the insurers.

It would be better to ask them to see what they can offer. All councils have emergency accommodation.

have a look at some campsites as individual owners will accept pets -im an owner of one but its down newcastle way and the park allows the owners to decide about pets
good idea to wander around them as owners will put for hire signs in window and much cheaper than going through the site

Will your entire house be out of bounds while you get the remedial work done or could you get away with hiring a portable bathroom to keep in the back garden for a couple of weeks?Locaal councils usually have event equipment, like portacabins with showers and loos, they can hire out quite cheaply.

If you really need to find accomodation which takes dogs then a web search for hoildays or hotels for dogs(rather than humans)throws up better results.Bad time of year to be looking for emergency accomodation, very expensive and most places will be fully booked in August.
