I have created this thread to help and give you my story. If you are worried and have done nothing about your own debt then you have entered the right place. I had unsecured borrowings of £92,000 and have entered an IVA and believe me had many sleepless nights but there is light at the end of the tunnel. PROVIDED YOU ACT and get a grip on the problem it can be overcome easier than one thinks. Good luck and wish everyone a speedy end to a massive UK problem. :T

Hi SEA
I had many sleepless nights....`head in sand ` works for a while but inside your head you always know that you have to face it one day.
Although I am still deep in the mire of my particular situation I really feel that getting advice, speaking openly about it is helping me to move on from the awful place I have been for the last 12 months.
Welcome & I hope anyone reading this will be encouraged to get help from the debt charities rather than suffering in worry & silence.

Thankyou SSA and wish you all the best, your advice is fantastic. Wish you the very best in future. No heads in sand on this thread number 1 rule.

The places we'd suggest contacting are:
- Consumer Credit Counselling Service: Full debt help service. Link: CCCS Tel: 0800 138 1111 Opening times: M-F 8am-8pm
- National Debtline: Full debt help service. Link: National Debtline Tel: 0808 808 4000 Opening times: M-F 9am-9pm, Sa 9.30am-1pm
- Citizens Advice Bureau: Full debt and consumer advice service. Link: Citizens Advice or visit your local CAB centre (find nearest) Opening times: different for each bureau
- Christians Against Poverty: Debt counselling agency, which specialises in helping those who are emotionally struggling too. The religious focus is why they do it, not how they do it. Link: Christians Against Poverty Tel: 01274 760720 Opening times: different for each bureau
Please remember debt charities do not charge for advice.
Impartial advice should be free....WARNING - there are a lot of debt advice companies that are benefiting from those who are in debt crisis & vulnerable.

Congratulations Sleep Easy on taking control of your life and moving forward.
Just being nosey here but can I ask who you spoke to about your situation and how you found them and who your IVA is through?BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
tigerfeet2006 thankyou for your post I would rather not mention the company who I went thru not because I dont want to help but so it is not potrayed as plugging the Insolvency practioner (ISP) involved. I was lucky because somebody I knew in business put me onto the ISP to guide me thru the maze of debt advice. But to give you my story my IVA is settup @ 30.1p in the pound which I payback £580 per month which is managable just!!0

Not to upset you - I really hope your IVA works but I know many, many people on here who were mis-sold IVAs and have ended up BR anyway. Do you own your own home? Did your ISP give you advice on BR too, what were his 'selling points' for IVA vs BR? Best to investigate these things before you invest too much in your IVA.
Like I said though I really hope it works for you!

FYP, yes I own my own home and it is part of the IVA that it is revalued in 4th year. I have never been one to shy way from my debts and believe it or not this was the first time in 20 years I ended up in this situation basically going from 2 incomes to 1 and having a 3 year old son things spiralled over time. I had advice on Debt management and BR also. It was impossible to got bankrupt and keep the job I have so the IVA was the best solution to address the problem.0

Well good luck to you, I really hope it works out for you and you can see the IVA through to the end.
Have you posted on the IVA board? if you have experiance of IVA's then you might be able to help people out, though as Angel has posted we highly recommend that people first contact a debt charity to get impartial advice in the first instance, though you were lucky enough to have a friendly ISP.
Though at least now if in the future you hit a bump in the road you know you can come to here and get help and advice.
Wishing all the best for your future.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0
