tories will go for at least 21 percent vat , but still not target companies that do their best to make uk money yet avoid uk tax by having an overseas head office.

I didn't notice many motorists (or many people at all) content with the little savings they would make from the VAT reduction to 15%. Yet if VAT goes up, everyone complains.
Perhaps political parties should consider raising VAT, whilst at the same reducing taxes - done correctly they can still raise more than they give away and complainers would be those who buy non-essentials.0 -

Would it be that unpopular? I can't remember feeling terribly excited when the rate was cut by 2.5%.......in fact I recently calculated a few ex-VAT purchases I made on t'Internet at 17.5% and spent the next 10 minutes wondering why their figure & mine didn't tally!
Mind you, maybe 'how soon they forget' is only applicable to drops, or old fogeys like me!
We clients who say to us all the time "we do not want to pay VAT". This is a blow for our small business of extensions if this happens. TBH expecting it to go up no matter who gets in at the next GE.0
