WH Smith interview tips?

It is very difficult for the school leavers to get work in this climate. Many of the kids in my neighbourhood have nothing.
What I always suggest to them is to go and volunteer with a local charity shop. At least it gives them the much needed work experience to move on with.
Sorry he feels so down. As a youngster there is nearly always going to be someone with more experience after the same job. Keep encouraging him to ring for feedback from the interview. He has a perfect excuse in being young and inexperienced he just might find out something to his benefit.Mags - who loves shopping0 -
How awful for him....do get him to call up for feedback, if nothing else it will hopefully help if there was something that he did "wrong" at the interview that he may do again in other interviews if he does not know he is doing it.
Does he have any other applications in the pipeline?
& yes - chocolate rocks at times like this!0 -
No other applications as he was so adamant that WHSmith was the job he wanted. But we've had a bit of a chat about putting it down to experience and he'll give some other shops a try..
The trouble is, there's not many jobs out there..
Chocolate is the answer to most of life's disappointments, even if it's just Sainsbury's Basics choc biccies instead of McVities (we dream of the days when we bought those without a thought of the cost...)
DS does know that jobs aren't easy to come by as he has seen his dad apply for probably 100+ since last Oct and get absolutely nowhere. So he's now quite philosophical about his rejection tho' still baulking at the idea of contacting 'Lucy' at the store.. If I see her when I'm next in, am i allowed to hit her with a copy of the Radio Times? (ah, that too is but a distant memory - no more magazines allowed either these days - dear God, even the choc biscuits have run out!!!)0 -
My daughter is a student and works for Smiths. She likes it - at first they will be on cash and wrap so he will need to stress he can work with high volume of customers at a fast pace. Then they get moved onto lottery or books or stationery so he can talk about how he would be interested in doing this. the best tip though is for him to talk about how he can initiate *tillpoint conversations* which are a way of flogging extra chocolate normally - the stores have targets and he will have to show he can upsell. Good luck to him though, dd likes it there.Cogito ergo sum. Google it you lazy sod !!0
