Need good quality cushion pads

Options
I have quite a bit of fabric left over from my recent curtain making. Was thinking of making some cushions, but my last effort was spoiled by cushion pads that were as flat as a pancake after a couple of weeks. Does anyone know where I can get good quality ones from?

Where do you live? Do you have an upholsterer's supplier near you? I did an upholstery course some years ago, and for all our supplies we were told to go to our local trade upholsterer's supplier on a small, local industrial estate. They sold to the public as well as to trade, and I bought 96 million cushion pads from them (all right, that's possibly an exaggeration...). They were a) much cheaper and b) fantastic quality. And they did them in all shapes and sizes. Failing that, what makes cushion pads go flat is the lack of feathers or lack of quality of feathers. You can get round this by buying two pads, unpicking the seam on one and putting both lots of feathers into one pad. WARNING - this IS a messy exercise and you WILL get covered in feathers! It's also obviously more expensive than seeking out your local upholsterer's supplies!! Our local one is on the industrial estate next to Penny & Giles (the people who make black boxes for aeroplanes) just outside Highcliffe in Dorset - on the very remote off-chance that you happen to live anywhere near that!!

Thanks for the top tip ChocClare. A little too far for me to visit unfortunately as I live in Stoke-on-Trent, however will search for an upholsterer's supplier near me. Thanks, soba

We have some really very big thick firm pillows that were £2.99 from Textiles Direct. You could probably squish them down the middle and sew them into two pieces to make cushions.

When we got them (around 2 years ago) they were too big and firm to sleep on, now they've softened a touch they're really good!

They came in a gold packet if that's of any use.

Thanks tr3mor, there's a Textiles Direct in Hanley, a couple of miles away. I'll be up there on Monday so I'll take a look around. Thanks, soba.
