Are you being paid a redundancy pay off? How long would it take you to get another job?
You'll get through this, my fiance was made redundant last September, it was quite a knock for us but we managed to get back on track0 -
hello
Yes - are you getting some redundancy money? Depending on how long you have worked there, you may get some statutory redundancy money.
Also - what type of work do you do? Maybe you can start applying for other jobs asap or contact agencies? In the interim - there may be some benefits you can claim?

ive been there two years so as far as ai know its two weeks wages for every year uve worked, so its about £400 hopefully to pass us by until i can find something else but my head is battered at te moment0

i work in a call center, the b & q the diy chain. so yes i got shouted and screamed at all day from disgruntled customers. i dont blame them0

Ok £400 per month on food is a lot - go to the Old Style board for some tips - you could easily half that !!
Smoking - quit !!
What does the £250 living cover ??
Just a start - I am sure more help will be along soon.
Hope you get another job quickly ((hugs))

Sorry to hear of your situation.
Your first trip should be down to the DSS office. They are there to help you. Make sure you've claimed every allowance you are entited to.
However, remember redundancy is not the end of the world. I and a number of people I know have been made redundant. We have all found other forms of work. some have found other jobs, some have found casual work, and some like me went self employed.
The thing we all have in common is that we have all got back on our feet. You will to.
Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your job loss. i suggest you need to check your contract to see how much notice they should give you.
i lost mine in Aug 2003. i was given 1 months notice and had 3 months in my contract so was paid an extra 2 months money plus redundancy0 -
How many other people were made redundant at the same time - was there a consultancy period?0

Yikes! :grouphug: first off. Redundancy sucks, and hopefully with a call centre background you should be ok to find another job quite soon. I think that's probably where the majority of your focus needs to be - at the very least get round temping agencies and see what's out there that will keep paying those bills.
As far as your debts go, you need to sort those loans. Four of them at 17% will be doing you no favours at all - best I can suggest is that you start off looking at https://www.whatsthecost.co.uk/snowball.aspx which will help you see what your loan payments are going to be costing you (you'll need to know what you owe though. I would also try ringing the providers to inform them of your redundancy and asking for help. It's always worth a try, and sometimes they'll surprise you.
I was going to say your electric and gas were a bit high, but with two teenagers that's not surprising. Worth checking to see you can't get a better deal with another utility company? if you click the phones and utilities button at the left of the page, Martin's article should come up. Ditto the phones, internet, mobiles ... you spend almost £100 a month on telecommunications. ouch.
Can you try leaving the car at home maybe? At least in the summertime it's not too horrid (watch it now rain non-stop) and the kids can go on their bikes? The petrol costs are only going to go up!
I agree with the stop smoking, but only as an ex-smoker am I allowed to say it! At the very least, roll your own whilst money's tight.
The food bill could definitely come down too - think about what you're buying and throwing away. Less labels/brand names, more shop's own, for starters! I'd also highly recommend you peruse the old style moneysaving board for fantastic home saving.
I might be wrong, but I get the impression you were managing to pay off the debts until you got made redundant. Maybe you could find a better job and not worry? Still, imagine cutting some of this spend away what extra you'd have to throw at the debts!
Good luck - you definitely found the right place to go for help! :beer:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 002 :rotfl:0
