How much washing powder?

I have just got a new washing machine that uses about half the amount of water my old one used, about 50 litres instead of 95 litres. Shoud i be using only half as much powder per wash? i am concerned that it might not rinse out properly.

I only use a fraction of the amount recommended and my washing comes out fine.

I use 2oz (actually its a 1/4 cup measure from an old set of measuring cups) I'm 54 and even as a child my late Mum always used to say use 1/2 the amount recomended on the box.
These days I use even less, but even if I wanted to I couldn't use the recomeded amount cos I live in a hard water area and the dispenser drawer isn't big enough to put that amount of powder in!!0
