in Cutting tax
hi guys, need some advice here.
i'm currently on jsa and recently started a part time job 6-9 hours a week. when i started i filled in a p46 and got my tax code (647L). all good so far.
however, i have just been given an offer for a full time job 40+ hours a week which i will be taking up. i will then sign off jsa and i'm told be given a p45. here's where i get a little unsure about things as i want to keep both jobs.
do i give this p45 to the new employer? or do i fill in a p46 when i start my (second) full time job too?
as i understand it, my part time job will be the one where my personal allowance will be as i've already gotten the tax code for it and this second full time job will be taxed at the br. is there any way i can swap this so that my second job (full time) will be the one with the 647L code and the part time (lesser paid) job at br?
not sure if that all makes sense but hoping to get some advice anyways.
thanks in advance!

You can swap your codes around so that your tax free allowance of 6475 is allocated to your main job. However, as yoou have already started a part time job and been allocated tax free allowances there, you have caused a bit of a problem becuase if the allowances are taken away from your first job, you will be left with an underpayment of tax.
I think you should tell your new employer that you have lost your P45 and ask for a form P46. Fill this is as if you have another job already and they will operate code BR. This will be bad for your cash flow for a while, but it will mean that you don't underpay tax.
Then go and visist your local tax office, taking with you your P45 frm the JC and your payslips from the first job. They can work out how many tax free allowances you have available this year to set against your full time job without causing an underpayment at the first job.
Next year, yuo can have all your allowances at your main job.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
