I would like a new, sturdy umbrella!

Hi guys!
In the downpours we've been having recently, my compact umbrella bit the dust (or
bit the rain!) and I thought I would come here to find out if you guys knew of any
good, sturdy brands.
I'm a bit torn about what kind of umbrella to get. I prefer the compact ones because
I hate to cart around a huge cane of an umbrella and like to just pop it in my
handbag. However, I know these are more flimsy than good old stick-like umbrellas.
Currently liking the Cath Kidston birdcage style, but they are quite big. I also like the
Radley compact ones, but any advice about long-lasting umbrellas would be much
appreciated!
Thanks, folks!
PS: The last one I had was £10 from Boots and was, quite frankly, pants!

Hello CaroW
It depends how small you mean or what size your handbag is.............but I have a Fulton automatic umbrella which is very strong/robust. It measures 28cm in length.
They might not be the cheapest umbrella you can find but if you want one that's going to last, I can recommend Fulton.;)

I would like to nominate my wife to be the ultimate tester of umbrellas.
She has to buy a new one every few weeks.
I've tried cheap and nasty through to expensive tough models for her - no difference!
Needless to say I do not let her near my Kawasaki Racing Green umbrella which I have managed to keep going for about ten years?
Mind you I do not have to worry about my hair!

I recommend this umbrella from Coopers of Storford - a mail order company. They are offering buy one get one free for £14.99 and you get a choice of colours. They open with a simple press button action and are wind resistant too.
You can find them here:

Nile - if Fulton's good enough for the Queen, it's good enough for me!
Gaz - here's to another ten years with your umbrella! Mine are good if they last ten months!
Fenella - brilliant! I (secretly) love the Coopers of Stortford magazine (not so secret now, though, eh?!)0
