Not really much difference in quality but minus play on almost every single DVD player around. Plus dvds play on almost every dvd player around but are less common than minus.
Thats the big difference, although you will find most dvd players playback both types0 -
nice spot on the 100 pack dvdrs from amazon
anyone know if these will write at 8x on the nec3500 using hacked firmware ?0 -

There is no real difference.
Just make sure you buy the right type to match your DVD recorder.
DVD+R/RW is the most popular format for home standalone recorders, but DVD-R/RW is mainly used on computers, or the less popular DVD recorders (mainly Panasonics and JVC)0 -
I thought DVD- was the one most Home DVD players played?0

DVD - is the most popular on home dvd systems. most play + as well now but the ones you cannot go wrong with is minus.0

It's not about quality- it's about the way in which the disc is laid out. DVD- is the standard designed by a bunch of companies with an interest in DVD-Rs. Sony and one or two other leading electronics companies developed an alternative way of designing the disc (making it easier to seek from section to section, though it's not interesting enough to go into in depth here) which made them more suited to packet writing (that is, writing data in small bits here and there rather than in one long stream, as used to be the case with old CDR drives and the like)

The original DVD-R people were gits about it all (they had rather a vested interest as they owned some rather important patents which they get royalties from with the use of the DVD-R format) so Sony et al decided 'well screw you then' and hence the DVD+R was born.
Anyhoo, DVD-R ought to be compatible with every drive. DVD+R is widely supported too though, and any device worth its wages will be fine.
Never smear jam on your discs as it renders them unplayable and attracts ants, especially during summer months.0
