Halifax underwriters.

Background first: We had a mortgage promise from the Halifax for £100,000. On that basis we sold our flat and made an offer on a house. Our LTV is just under 60%, with an A1 credit rating. The issue is with our jobs. We are relocating for family reasons, and while we are both in secure and fairly well paid professions, but don't have permanent contracts yet. My oh has a 6 month contract sorted, but it doesn't start until 2 months after the current jobs finish. I will be doing supply.
The mortgage has now gone to the underwriters. The guy who gave us the promise has gone on holiday, and directed us to someone in their call centre. We can't seem to get hold of him, he doesn't return our calls and none of the other call centre staff seem able to tell us anything. We just want to know our position and clarify a few questions.
It has been less than a week since it went to the underwriters, so we are not panicking yet! But how long do they usually take? Has anyone had any problems or had their mortgage refused by the underwriters?

I would allow 7 days or so from the point of submission.
Your LTV is the big positive, but if I've understood correctly you're asking them to lend you money when neither of you have a permanant job lined up.
There are no guarantees that you'll get a positive outcome.0 -
Hi,
I would also like some info on this. My application is being handled by a broker who said my application has passed the 'initial underwriting'. What does this mean? And what is the next stage of underwriting usually done? I have sent payslips and bank statements so far.
