Hi there,
i am likely to be forced into bankruptcy due to a current legal situation i am in with my old employer. The thing is a am a foreign national and am only in the UK on a partner visa so when the legal battles are done I will mor ethan likely asked to leave the country. If i am bankcrupted here in the UK does this stand in other countries such as Australia or New Zealand?
Many thanks

Hi minkys & welcome
I am not aware of issues in emigrating to another county that BR would cause. I guess a call to the relevant embassy would be the first port of call.
Good luck ,

There is something called UNCITRAL Model Laws which is basically an agreement that other countries will recognise someone declared bankrupt in England or Wales, these do include Austrailia and New Zealand, so therefore these countries will have access to your Bankruptcy information and could likely affect your credit ability there.0

From what I have reasearched this would only apply to someone whom had assests that needed to be seized as part of this bankruptcy which i have absolutley nothing.
When you get made bankrupt can they make your partner pay money back for you?0 -
Minky, why would you lose your visa? Bankruptcy is not a crime. Your visa is as a partner/ spouse not a work permit/ visa so you should be alright. I'm not an expert on the matter by the way just giving my opinion. You could always ring the UK Border Agency enquiry line anonymously - Phone: 0870 606 7766 . Good luck.2019 MFW No. 74 £13700/£30000 (45.66%)
12k in 2018 No. 98 £6274.19/£18000 (34.85%)
BTL (start) £97440.00 (current) £68000.00
Residential (start) £275000.00 (current) £268000.000 -
Hi there,
i will lose my visa because of the circumstances with my ex employer, as I am still a foreign national this is what happens (i have legal advice on that matter) I just wanted to know about the bankruptcy side and if it will affect my future in NZ.
Also as I am very fresh to all of this can someone tell me how long ankruptcy stays with you for and what happens if you dont have ANYTHING and I mean NOTHING to pay back to someone?
Many thanks0 -
Bankruptcy lasts for 12 months but can stay with you for life. I wouldn't think it would affect you in any way in NZ though.
