When does bankruptcy officially end ?

My parents in law filed for bankruptcy February 2005, my father in law was self employed. They have heard nothing about the bankruptcy ending although we think they said if we heard nothing they would be clear in a year.
We would like to transfer a car that some friends kindly bought for them after they became bankrupt from their sons name (where it was registered to avoid being taken as assets) to theirs - insurance will be cheaper if we do this now. However we don't want to risk losing the car to the receivers.
Does anyone know when we are completely free of the bankruptcy?
Thanks

if you look on the insolvency register you can see if you are still bankrupt.

Contact the OR and get a discharge certificate, you will need this eventually. I think they charge for them now.
