New slow cooker - gammon joint

I have just purchased my first slow cooker. Trying a chilli in it tonight but I also bought a smoked gammon joint with the thought of making it into a kind of stew/soup with veggies and lentils. Not quite sure how I go about cooking the joint though. Do i bung it in whole with veggies and stock, or do I cook it seperately?
Thanks,
Muso

I am pleased you asked this as it'll be good to know - sorry I am no use in giving an answer but waiting patiently for a reply like you :-)
Also - if anyone knows a recipe for soup using ham stock and some of the ham (I have one already cooked that I did yesterday but reserved the stock) then that would be fab. Pea and ham, anything along those lines? All recipes greatly appreciated :-D
Thanks

Hi
I have cooked normal gammon joint in slow cooker (think it would be the same for smoked one) . I rinsed it under the tap, patted it with kitchen paper, then put it in slow cooker, poured olive oil over it and turned it on.
It came out beautifully tender. Any juice that came out I used for soup too.
See recipes at front of August 2009 shopping challenge at top of this thread for soup recipes - i got mine from there
Hope it helpsMortgage free as at 1/9/13 :j

I would do what donny did, cook the gammon then use the cooking juices as a stock for soup the next day. I never follow soup recepies i just fling in veg (carrots, swede, potato, leek onion) lentis and stock and boil it for an hour or so on the hob. Smoked gammon will make quite a salty stock so add a few potatos in the soup as that absorbs the saltinessMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000
