A week is an awfully long time when you have houseguests and have to keep them fed and entertained.

Have you thought about making some giant lasagnes, pies, stews etc. and freezing them in advance? It will make life so much easier if you just have to remember to defrost something and reheat it after an exhausting day.

If i'd been a little more organised that would have been a great idea, but they're going to be here lunchtime so I think i'm just going to have to have to muddle on through! I've sort of come up with a meal plan, but i'm still too worried about her saying "so and so won't eat that" to set it in stone :rotfl: Families eh?!

    Thanks to everyone x

Hi fmw - i make my own marinade for sticky chicken.

i cook them in the oven but you can bbq them too (just takes longer)
you can of course cheat and use a bbq sauce mix but the one below works for me, i just add chilli but you can leave it out. works for ribs too.

i use cheap drumsticks - make up the marinade and put it all in a big tub and make sure all the chicken is covered leave for as long as possible. we call it sticky chicken

    1/2 cup Tomato Sauce
    1 cup Clear Honey
    1/2 cup Soy Sauce
3 cloves Garlic, crushed - optional
1/2 spoon Chilli Powder "optional" - or more if you like it HOT

To answer your question to Beth, I'd guess the cups thing is just for relative proportions, so it doesn't really matter what size you assume/use. Given the number you are catering for you might want to do double the quantities given in any case.

Don't suppose we'll see much of you for the next few days then - please do update us when it's all over and you get a chance, we'd love to know how it went and what you came up with.

    Good luck!
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I made a fab dessert the other day that was very moneysaving. It is called Swedish Apple Cake - I can't seem to find it on here but it was very simple:

    breadcrumbs or cake crumbs
    margarine or butter (melted)
    sugar to taste
    cinnamon

    apples
    sugar
    lemon

melt butter, stir in breadcrumbs, cinnamon and sugar.
peel slice and cook apples with lemon juice and sugar.

    Use a loaf tin
Layer breadcrumb mix with apple sauce, finishing with breadcrumbs
Bake at 180 degrees for around 30 minutes.
Leave to cool and turn out.

This made a lovely 'cake' that we had as a dessert with custard but could be eaten as a cake
    somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's
