HELP: Selling Endowment Policy & countersignatures

I'm selling my endowment policy that I took out with the Royal London some years ago and I need countersignatures on various documents, including the Assignment Of A Policy Of Assurance.
Now, I thought this might be easy as my friend is a solicitor but he's now on two weeks leave. I didn't want to leave it that long and so he suggested that I take it to my local bank and so I popped in there yesterday with all the relevant forms.
The guy I spoke to took one look at it and said he wouldn't sign as it means giving out his personal address on the Assignment form, which is fair enough although I'm not sure why he couldn't have signed it care of the bank.
This leaves me with the only option I can see available at the moment:solictors.
The accountant option may have been open to me a year and a bit ago but I'm unemployed now and have no contact with my previous employers anymore.
So, my question is: do you know how much solicitors charge for this service? Also, am I not going to run into the same problem I had with the bank?
Incidentally, I've been told that the only people that can countersign/witness the forms are IFA, Solicitors, Accountants and Banks and Building Societies.
Help!

Life's what you make it....

Life beyond voluntary work scares me, but what else is there?

That's what I thought but it didn't occur to me until I'd left.
I'm heading that way again in a bit so I'm going to give it another try.Life's what you make it....

Many Royal London policies are quite desirable, not so with L&G.Trying to keep it simple...0

I managed to get slighly above the surrender value so I was quite chuffed.
Being unemployed I didn't want to continue paying in and the money from the sale, and the saving on premiums each month, will come in handy when I start full time education in September.
I guess I could have got a student loan, but I didn't want to go down that route!
With regard to the paperwork: I took it to Barclays, after being refused by Abbey again, and they were quite happy to sign it.Life's what you make it....
