They will say ANYTHING to try and threaten you and pressure you into paying!
Stick to what you can afford and correspond only in writing!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Hi James - I am sure they will accept less once you get CCCS involved - in fact they won't have a choice in the matter - and they may get less than £240. CCCS will work out what you can afford, not what the creditors want. And then the total you can afford to repay will be split between your creditors in a fair way.

So until you speak to CCCS my advice would be don't worry!

  • Thanks for the replies as always. I have written to them to offer smaller payments and am going through things with CCCS.
I'll let you know how I get on
  • Hi,
I have written to Newman offering lower amount but have not heard yet. I have received a letter from them that must have crossed with mine but was probably delayed by the recent Royal Mail action in London. Anyway I am waiting to hear back on my offer of payments but this letter I received was again of a threatening nature.
I am now not sure what to do. If I call them I will just get more of the same 'you must pay the full amount and there are no options' message that they normally give me but sitting here not hearing anything makes me worry.

    Any advice?
  • Any advice anyone? I really feel like I should phone them today

Just the usual - DON'T phone them! Ever!

DCAs rely on your fear to extort money out of you, and there is no better way of bulling you than on the end of a phone line.

Now, am I right in thinking this was an Amex credit card debt? Which letter did you send them, and what does the reply/next letter you have received say? Did you send your letter by recorded delivery?

  • They sent me a letter that stated they would only accept £400 a month. I replied and said I was unable to pay this amount and made them an offer. The day after I posted this (I didn't send it recorded) I received another one from them saying the debt is still outstanding and they will instruct solicitors if I don't resolve it. So they sent this before they would have received my offer and since then I have heard nothing.
The debt was an ex one.

    Thanks
  • That last line should have said it was an Amex debt

Have you sent the cca request, yet?

  • No. I am doing that this weekend. I assumed, maybe mistakenly that if we came to a payment arrangement I didn't need to do a CCA but now I know more about them i should have done one anyway.
