How much are they ? How do you use them ? What do you cook in them? Are they a good thing ?

Mine was a special from Aldi last year around £11 and much bigger than my last two.
I love mine and wouldn't be without it. No more keeping watch on pans to ensure they don't boil over.
I cook everything in mine, all veg, potatoes and even chicken breasts. I know others cook rice and fish too, but I have never tried this.
Wouldn't be without mine, having had one for at least the last 12 years or so. As I said, it's my 3rd one, they fur up as we have hard water and the bowls crack through wear and tear if I put them in the dishwasher.
Once you try it, you'll never regret it, I almost guarantee.:hello:0 -
I got mine in Tesco and I'm sorry, I can't remember the price. It's stackable and I must admit does stay in the cupboard most of the time. However, it is extremely useful if you regularly feed a crowd - you just put the veg in, put the timer on and walk away. It pings when it's done. No worries about boiling over or overdoing the veg and of course you are freeing up space on the hob.
So it depends on what kind of meals you cook, really0 -
I had broccoli at my son's and it was lovely. he said they did it in the steamer. I need to start doing more veg and just wondered if I should buy one if it makes the awful stuff taste nicer LOL !0

I have a 3 tiered thing and it gathers dust most of the time as it's a pain in the @ss to clean, especially when I use it for broccoli - all the little green bits get everywhere.
If I want to steam anything I just use a pan of water and a colander on the hob - easy to clean
.
It's only a game

Had mine for about 4 years but I can't remember how much it cost.
Like others have said you just put your veg in the steamer and leave it until it pings :T I love steamed brocoli, it's a lot nicer and because I put it in for the last 3-4 minutes it never over cooks. I've never cooked fish or chicken in it befor so I might try that, probably could get loads more use from it than I do if I used my imagination a bit more
It came with a cook book that had recipes for deserts too. I'd love to hear about any sweet stuff people have cooked in their steamers
Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -
We use our stainless tiered jobby quite a bit. Economical imo - less water needed, cooks at higher temperature than boiling, keeps more vits in. No straining required. Multiple veg etc. easy to keep separate.
We are big one-pot cooks, but potatoes, broccoli, greens, corn on the cob invariably get steamed. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
ok thanks everybody

I never use my 3 tier steamer, but I'd be lost without the rice cooker with steamer basket - I do potatoes and carrots, etc, in the top for Sundays, fish whilst the rice cooks, pasta, loads of things. I will definitely replace it when it goes bang, whereas the 3 tier steamer was initially a replacement for the previous one which I used loads - until I was given the rice cooker.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

I'm with Mrs Bartolozzi, I have a foldable colander thing which goes over my potatoes. Broccoli stays bright green & slight crunch. I have had it years and when it goes I will try the colander idea.0
