I was in similar situation with Halifax in 199-something - they wouldnt give me the rate available to new customers, so I left them after ten years of loyal custom. I would certainly encourage everyone to leave their lender if they do not give you the deal you want. Am now in my second five year fixed rate deal with The Yorkshire.....had to pay a couple of hundred quid over the odds for being existing customer but the deal was good enough to cover that in a couple of months.

What amazes me Halifax cannot realise that to some-one else you are a new customer, they give you their review,(jump through hoops questions)then offer you something that is not competitive, and the review team cannot help you because they are not trained to the level of advice.DO they want to retain ,they say yes,but actually they play lip service and just go through procedures, surely their marketing have sorted this one out, perhaps not

for further advances there is a lending criteria that has to be met

it may have been down to the business assessors at the end of the day - but i would certainly have tried to do a £50k further advance for someone that is self-employed. you can;t provide 3 years books that you sometimes have to - but you can provide income reference from your accountant - and by the looks of things you may not have even needed this if you were an A pass customer on the credit score and your low LTv - loan to value- I'd ask the mortgage reviewer why. If you did it over phone, i'd cast not much help - go to branch to see a mortgage reviewer. - if you have u;'d ask for more explanation

i'm forever, chasing these customers to actually help spend more time of them, and get them through

kenshaz - here you go, you asked me a few times. I am a mortgage reviewer, I look after existing Halifax mortgage customers.
I am non-advised, bar insurances in which i give advice (Halifax only). The mortgage advisers when you take out the mortgage are advised.

Could you go to Abbey, Northern Rock ect and see someone in branch face-to-face - no its done over phone? My role is specifically for existing mortgages - is that a bad thing by Halifax? - ok Halifax do different products for existing customers, and I agree with what you guys are saying but hey we are not alone.- other lenders do it too. Spme of the products are not bad - ie a 4.79% rate at mo available. - but again not alone.
Nationwide, do it all - but they are ALWAYS non-advised. they choose not to give advise even at beginning.

We do write to people 8 weeks before their products end inviting them, for a review, if they take us up on that, that is their decision - most do. Thenb get comparisons on KFI. You can only try - and I can only work with the products we have available.
