Bread Maker

Hi guys - I seem to use a fair amount of bread between myself and my housemate. Sick of the crappy prices we pay.
Those with breadmakers - what is the quality/taste of the bread actually like and is it more convenient do you find or more of a hinderance having one?
Considering getting one!

Our much-used Breville breadmaker died last week after 8 years & we've bought a new Panasonic one this morning. We used our old breadmaker loads. The basic loaves are good and there are books of breadmaker machine recipes you can get from the library with lots of ideas. I use the dough programme a lot too where the machine makes the dough and sorts out the first rising, but then you have to take it out, shape it into bread rolls, leave it to rise again and bake in the oven. I usually make 2 dozen rolls at the beginning of the week and that sorts out packed lunches. Other nice things....well, the dough makes good pizza bases..... just normal bread flour and much nicer than the industrial cardboard ones from the shops. You can easily & cheaply make things like onion & rosemary topped focaccia bread to bulk out meals. I really like cooking, but if I have friends or family over for a meal, the thing they usually comment on is not the thing I've just slaved over, but having warm bread rolls with it........don't know why I don't give up and just serve them a big plate of bread! Bread flour varies, from basics....I got a Waitrose Essentials bag of white flour the other week for I think about 70p (haven't checked out Lidl and the like but probably worth doing) and it made a large loaf and 24 decent size bread rolls.....to stone milled organic stuff staight from the windmill at a premium price. From our point of view, we wouldn't be without a breadmaker........and because it's a gadget, my husband likes using it too.
