DSG Product Replacement Vouchers - NOT HAPPY WITH AMOUNT

Hi,

I purchased a toshiba laptop in 2007 from currys. Purchase for £500.00.

I started having problem at 10 months after purchase.

After 14 months I had complete motherboard failure, the lapto will not switch on.

After several letters currys have come back to me and offered £350.00 in Replacement Vouchers.

I am not happy, will it not be cheaper for them to replace the motherboard.

This offer is too low, i am looking for any advice on how i can get currys to increase the offer.

I anyone else has had similar problems please do leave a message

Thanks

Tell them it's not enough & go into Currys with a spec list from your old laptop to find one that has all the spec & then tell Currys that this is the least you will take in vouchers...........
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!

I think that is what Curry's have done. A two year old spec computer will probably be "worth" £350.00 now.

Trying to find one in Curry's for £350.00 to the same spec you probably will not be able to, since the specs will have gone up in the two years since purchase.

IF you can get a laptop with the same spec for £350.00 then I don't see a problem. But if the nearest spec laptop is more than £350.00 then you either want the extra money off them, or get them to discount the laptop so you only use the £350.00 of vouchers.

I think you have done well. A £500 laptop 2 years ago would be surpassed by a £350 one now. Think of it as a free upgrade.

This is pretty much true, Currys will take into account the fact that you had the use of a laptop for the 14 months.
If it went to court apparently they would average the life expectancy of the product and divide that by however many months you had it, they would then deduct that from the original sale price and award you the difference

    Eg: original cost £500
average life expectancy, say about 4 years (48 months)
£500 divided by 48 months = £10.41 per month, you had the laptop for 14 months that equates to = £145.74
    £500 - £145.74 = £354.26

I know it's pants as you seem to have had a fair bit of hassle but as the law goes I think they will say that Currys have acted fairly

Then in that case you are lucky to get anything off them as its over 12 months old.

When you take out their insurance which is about £100 for an extra 2 years on top of the manufactures warranty, you get the full value of the laptop back in vouchers.

I dont think I would argue with £350 of vouchers if the laptop was out of warranty and I didnt have their insurance.
