Hi everyone!
I'm been looking for this link! Thanks to Katp for providing help.
I have recently started to take control of things and am looking for any moneysaving 'foodie' ideas!
Have started my budget and will post tomorrow a full weeks results.
I've not done bad - but there must be LOADS of room for improvement.
Thanx in advance! :T

Hiya! well done for joining us. I find it best to make changes one at a time if possible, small steps, break it down into little bits. If you overface yourself its so disheartening."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

hello and welcome to OS
I have been here forabout six months so far and have learnt a lot. The links shown above are really helpful. You will find that after a short time you start to think OS. It becomes part ofthe daily routine.
There are great tips on keeping the home in order - fly lady
as well as stuff on budgetting and on what to do with a glut of mushrooms or how to cook beef brisket or oxtail. its an endless database of tried and tested info.
I started small - made a few perminant changes and am still surprised at how much better our family is getting at saving the pennies.
Good luck

Hi I am a newbie too. I lurk around all things old style, it's great, the guys here are sooo knowledgable!
I have a copy of "How to feed your whole family" by Gill Holcombe. it is great with menu plans and shopping lists. You can feed your family for £25 a week. See if you can get it from your library.
I know they guys on here can feed their families for much less than £25, but I found the book a great place to start.
Good luck!Stop the world, I'm getting off!

Glad you came along for some help!
I guess now I keep telling people to come here I should actually post occasionally rather than just reading the threads and then adding lentils to everything I cook!
That's been the main thing I've learnt so far - lentils - they make a chilli or a curry or a bolognaise go further for less money, and gets you some more veg - bonus!!!0 -
I have visions of KatP adding lentils to rice pudding, or apple pie.....:D
Sorry, I have a warped sense of humour.;):D
My real reason for posting was to say to the OP don't beat yourself up if you fall off the OS wagon occasionally. We all do it; just pick yourself up and climb back on.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
It used to be a sticky on here but doesn't seem to be anymore, but I'd suggest joining the PIN Money Challenge either for real of virtual. It'll show you how much you're saving with vouchers, storecupboard challenge etc.

Hello Hettiecarro - welcome to MoneySaving Old Style
.
Best thing is to make simple, easy changes as you go along. If you do too much too soon, you could risk alienating your family and/or OH and that's the last thing you need to be doing - you need their support to do it successfully.
If you can all see a goal that all your OS ways is leading towards, then you stand a better chance of making it work. Try posting a progress report on your fridge/freezer door so that everybody keeps sight of the outcome
.
Paying off worrying debts; saving for a family holiday; trying to pay off your mortgage early; trying to get through Christmas without having to go into massive debt - these are all great reasons for starting and sticking to OS/MoneySaving ways and may give you the incentive to stick at it - rather than just saving money for the sake of it.0
