Closing joint account before bankruptcy and effect on partner

Posts: 58 Forumite
Hi,
I am about to go bankrupt and have two joint accounts with my partner which I need to close. One has a zero balance and the other has an overdraft of about £600. I have spent all the money and it's nothing really to do with my partner so I would prefer to get his name taken off the account and include it in the bankruptcy however I am concernered this may affect him. Alternatively I could bget my name removed from the account, but of course I would then 'owe' him £600 which I will struggle to pay back at a later date - but if the other option would affect him this will have to be the course of action. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I belive he has to write to the credit reference agency to disassociate himself? Although we live together and have a (six week old) baby, we are not married.
Thanksin advance

I doubt the bank will remove your OH from an overdrawn account, and if its close to going BR then you will find he will fall liable for the £600
good job its not £6000 int it!0 -
I think he would have killed me if it was £6,000. Will have to beg steal or borrow to find that as well as the bankruptcy fee!:beer: :beer: :beer:0

try £60,000 then... i did... :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:0

:-( Do you know if they remove me (and hence will get the money back sometime in the future) if this wil have any effect on him, other than owing the £600?:beer: :beer: :beer:0

As MAX said They'll remove nobody from a joint while the account is in the red......the banks would go for the cash to the person then NOT going bankruptWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0
