I have got a bag of dark brown sugar in my cupboard that's been there for yonks and has hardened into a block. Is there an easy way of loosening it up, as I'd like to try catowen's carrot cake recipe at the weekend?

I usually put mine in a strong bag, wrap it in a tea towel and set about it with the rolling pin. Does the jobMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

I'd put it in a bowl with a folded, well-dampened tea-towel over the top and leave overnight. In the morning it will be soft.
This is similar to CCstar's apple wedge/moist bread tip. Its lack of moisture that's the problem.0 -
I'd pummel the thing. Particularly in my current state of mind. It would feel fantasticBaby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
