ok then, how many fathers do you recon have bought up a child thinking its theirs, and either never fond out it isnt or found out in later life.
i have a beautiful DD, and i dont doubt shes mine, but i have so much sympathy for the fathers and children who find out a long way down the line that it isnt so.
not just the emotional problems it will/has caused to people but the financial implications too.0 -
Having had this kind of thing happen in my life recently ( I was NOT the woman who decided to sleep around and not know who the father of my child was) and speaking to people in similar situations for support ... it is common and it is most certainly not always people in short term, unstable relationships. Many were couples who had been married for years.
I don't agree with the DNA database that would be created due to this, but maybe if DNA swabs were taken at birth, it would deter many women AND men from sleeping around and having unprotected sex if they know they will not get away with it!August GC 10th - 10th : £200 / £70.61

Since you seem to have missed the same question on the same subject on these exact boards, you might be interested in this http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1859515after reading all these disaster stories about mothers who tell blokes that they are the dad when they aint, and also blokes that go through years of thinking they are the dad to find out a 16 that they aint, i think it would be a good idea for every baby and potential daddy to have a swab taken and paternity test done.
i think its beneficial to the baby and father in later life

Maybe the board guide will manage to merge the two threads.I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!0 -

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
That doesn't mean there are none ... some probably don't know and many others choose not to make it public knowledge. I have spoken to a number of people in that situation.August GC 10th - 10th : £200 / £70.61

Yes, my thread was moved despite it clearly being relevant to Child Support and to Money Saving.
It is hard to believe that some mothers lie about parentage but it happens.
It is because of the fragility of the subject that I believe it should be mandatory. Mum and dad could then agree that it was just a formality and if it went well, life would go on. It would remove all doubt and it would be a good thing for society. Maybe the less reputable ladies of this world (like a mate whose wife had two kids to his BROTHER but who thinks they are his) would be more careful.
GGThere are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.0
