depends on whether there is a repair service for the item, or if we still stock it

Well if your new one last week id take it back under the 16 day money back gurantee and get a full refund.
As for you older one it depends on if we still sell it which is proberly unlikey as they seem to change them every 6 months so your proberly looking at getting your money back in vouchers or a replacement product of a simliar spec and price.
I very rarely here of things being sent of to be fixed.0 -
Hmm, slightly off topic, but they were wrong to say there was nothing they could do without the receipt. All you need was proof that you purchased from Argos, e.g. credit card statement. Of course you may not of had this proof...0

At 11 Monthes old it is 2 catalogues back, it could have been bought anytime during the duration of that book, and if there is a repair facility manufacturers normally want to see PoP
Whats the brand name of the item?0 -
Depends what you want them to do. Like has been already said, if there is a repair service for the item then they would more than likely offer that because of the age on it. I do not see that there would be any problem in getting a refund on it though, just tell them you bought a more expensive one last week. If you wanted, you could even take your new one in with the receipt, have it refunded back onto your debit card, then re purchase it with the vouchers that you would get back from the refund of your old one. I'd hurry up about it though cos its getting closer to the one year guarantee ending!!0

I think it's unreasonable to want to see a receipt. If you bought with some kind of recordable transaction e.g. credit card they should be able to look in their own records and see that yes you really bought it there.
If they really do insist on a receipt then at least they could give you a better-printed one than those flimsy thermal printer ones that fade away after a bit.I ♥ MSE0 -
a store cannot demand to see a 'receipt' because by law they do not have to give one out. they are however well within their rights to ask for proof of purchase. whilst a recipt is the most obvious format, because it say in no uncertain tterms what you bought, when and how, a credit card statement/cheque stub etc are also accaptable forms of proof, provided the date tallies and the numbers add up.
in short, whilst you may think receipts are "unreasonable" it really is the best option, beause it makes it much harder for the sales assistant to quibble, and much easier for you to negotiateknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
i certainly can't argue with losing my receipt as we purchased with gift vouchers and threw the box away! it was our own fault, but anyway it was a very happy ening, it was like i found £100!0
