climasmart on mattress..worth the extra money?

Was thinking about getting a La Romantica madrid or venice bed, which both seem to get positive feedback here, but was wondering if anyone knew whether it was worth paying the extra for the climasmart fabric? Is it a gimmick or does it really work?

Also sprung edge or platform top for the divan bit?

I have just ordered a Madrid with Climasmart, I will let you know when it gets delivered! For such an expensive piece of furniture, I didn't want to run the risk of overheating for the sake of £60, so it is worth a punt.

If you didn't want to pay the extra in the initial price, then you can get a mattress protector with Outlast (not supposed to be quite as good as Climasmart but similar) afterwards. Doing it this way can be slightly more expensive if you do decide to buy one.

I've never used Climasmart myself, so it would be interesting to hear what Dave_Clifton has to say.

I had a Venice which I returned as my legs seemed to be getting very hot.I exchanged it for a Madrid with climasmart and the problem seems to have gone completely. Now I don't know if it's the climasmart fabric or if it's possible that the firmer Madrid mattress means my legs don't sink into the mattress quite so much but either way I'm happy and reckon it was money well spent.

I just wish I understood how it works!

On latex climate control fabrics would be more to stop the mattress feeling cold when you first get into bed in winter, rather than stopping you felling to hot in summer as with memory foam.

ah so there is no benefit apart from in winter then? no problem il not bother with it i dont get cold that often its more an issue of getting hot in bed. thanks

I'm still undecided about the climasmart option. The problem is testing the difference. I suppose the guy who was too hot and then swapped for a (albeit firmer) climasmart covered mattress shows that it may have a positive effect.

I'd be more interested in people who have the outlast mattress toppers as it would be clearer how much of an improvement it would be.

Another thing I'm worried about is durability.

It just looks less strong than a normal mattress material. I'd hate to put all this effort into finding a great mattress and then for the material to degrade. It's just taking quite a risk over the more time tested materials. I don't know, maybe appearances can be deceptive. It just looks like it's made from very light material, almost kitchen paper-like.

I'm sure it's quite strong really but has anyone used a climasmart mattress for more than a couple of years?

It is actually quite a thick material, and is much thicker than the 4 way stretch material that has been used on memory foam mattresses for years.

Ive got a pocket sprung mattress with memory foam and when I first got it last September I was so hot at night for the first 2 weeks - I brought a matress protector from tj hughes after the 2 weeks that had climasmart in and did notice I was not as hot after that.

I use to be a 15 tog duvet girl over winter but this winter Ive stuck to a 4.5 tog one and not needed anything else! I went for a quality microsoft duvet instead of my usual cheapo Wilkos synthetic duvet so the better quality might of made the difference?

Duvet replaced with a cotton sheet at the mo.

If I order any mattress in the future Il be going for something like the Romantica with the climasmart option but at the mo very happy with current set up.
