I can't believe how incompetent the tax people are!
They've received my P11D and sent me a new tax code, and guess what? An error of over £600 that shouldn't be there!

My employer pays for medical insurance, and what did the tax people do? Add a line with the 08/09 value, but still keep and deduct the 07/08 amount as well: £300 deduction that shouldn't be there

Then the extra tax on my savings. When I contacted them at the beginning of the tax year to pay the extra 20% on my savings they sent me a corrected tax code, fine. Now they doubled the deduction, as if I hadn't already paid the 20% that the banks charge: another £300+ deduction that shouldn't be there

I called the office, and when I explained and they checked the details they agreed with me and corrected the code right away.
Now what would have happened if I hadn't noticed or if I was someone who isn't very comfortable with these tax issues? Gosh...

This is one of the many glitches which have been discovered on the new all singing all dancing PAYE service which HMRC have just launched.
Your's is obviously one which was issued out before it was noticed.

To be fair all staff have been told they have to stick rigidly to the process and training instructions so that such glitches can be discovered and when they are the staff then have to wait for the IT bods either to fix it or create a workaround. You wouldn't believe this new system was tried and tested for several months before they launched it :rolleyes:
