The only facts that are relevant is that they worked part of the year and do not intend to work for rest of the year (and I assume they have no other source of income). As such, they have not had the benefit of their full personal allowance, as this would have been pro rated and thus they are entitled to claim back the tax.
Im with this, as long as you wont be working abroad, then you can apply for rebate. Think the application states that if you are intending not to work for 4 weeks or more, then you should apply for rebate.
OP - might take a while to process as there seems to be a constant back log at the offices.0 -
Pumpkinface, leachyd, the OP was not asking for a rebate due to unused portion of tax free allowance. The OP was asking for a refund of "all the income tax you paid within the present tax year". Read the OP's first post above again. The answer to the OP's question is - No, the OP may not claim back "all the income tax" he paid in the year leading up to his departure from the UK. The OP may claim back unused portions of the yearly tax free allowance, yes.0

If the OP earned £6,000 in the tax year, worked for 6 months then left the country to go travelling, not working for the rest of the tax year they could get all their tax back.
If the OP knew they exact tax law they were talking about theyu probably wouldn't be posting a question here in the first place.0
