Boss Changing rota without consulting staff

A four week rota was implemented 2 weeks ago, however staff have noticed that our boss has changed it without consulting any of our staff.
the staff involved had already made plans and now have to change those plans, although 1 member of staff has refused insisting that they will work to the original rota
My Question is can our boss change the rota without asking the staff involved first once rota is implemented ??? HELP..

have some people gone of sick, left the company? Has he had to implement this last minute change to meet business needs?
I would suggest speaking to your union rep, if you dont have one, speak to your manager directly and explain you have other commitments outside work that you have to attend to . This rota change might just be a one off due to the reasons mentioned above? if it is i'd run with it on this occasion if you dont have anything important that needs doing, however if its a regular occurrence i'd take things further0 -
No one has been sacked or off sick, boss has changed rota 3 times in the past week without warning. afecting 3 different members of staff who work in the same dept..0

Check your contract. At major stores I've worked at there's a clause to the tune of "hours will be changed to suit the business and can be changed as necessary".0

but surely the manager should consult the staff
No. Work is not a democracy. Rosters may need to be changed at short notice for business reasons. It would be good to let the staff know as soon as possibe, though, and of course it is always subject to family friendly agreed flexible working hours, if applicable to any individuals.0 -

Out of courteousy possibly. Legally though, why should he?
If the boss had to discuss and ask permission from the workers after each decision, then he wouldnt be the boss would he.Work is not a democracy. Rosters may need to be changed at short notice for business reasons.
Far too many employees seem to think they have some sort of right to question whats going on and why.0
