I've said it before but Grotbuster is fantastic at cleaning up manky old bathrooms. I know. I've been in your situation.
Good luck and don't despair. Ask your neighbours about the plums. It's a good excuse to get chatting0 -

I sympathise. We are looking for a new place and some of the places we have viewed have been disgusting. I understand that not everyone has the same cleaning habits but I would of thought people trying to sell would be making an effort. I actually dread the state of whatever we buy.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

Honey just take baby steps and before you know it you will be finished.
Have a look at the Flylady section that will help with the cleaning especially as you seem to like the lists xx
Good luck and remember baby steps x:beer: Officially Debt Free Nov 2012 :beer:0 -

Its unreal isnt it? I honestly thought i was bad, i hate cleaning and try to do the bare min, however when i was walking round the new place cursing(hehe) and saying 'I thought i was bad but this is unreal'
DH turned and said, honey, your not dirty your just messy....made me laugh so much!0 -
For the cleaning/decorating, start at the top and work down! In other words do upstairs first, do ceilings then work down to skirting boards. No point in traipsing thru a cleanly decorated room making it messy again. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0

Hello Zoe
Congratulations on your new home:j
Here are my suggestions
1. The garden - use what you have growing there - and tackle it from the back door outwards. The greenfingered thread will probably be able to help with specifics on weed killing and plant recognition. Make the most of the wild fruit - jam, crumbles, pies - or just stew and freeze until you decide what to do with it - blackberrries keep for at least a year to 18 months with no loss of flavour
2. Cleaning - head over to the flylady thread - its a case of one room at a time - start where you need to live - kitchen, bathrooms, kids bedrooms and so on. Stardrops, bicarb used as scourer, etc should get most stuff done. Fly lady can also help with advice re specific cleaning tasks - like stubborn dirt and stains
3. Check out freecycle for decorating ideas - and ask friends / family for part used paint pots - it looks like you need to paint quite a few areas - our local freecycle group always has paint going - people buy too much and dont return it. Otherwise - small areas can be painted with half used pots - it might not be immediately stylish but it will be clean and liveable until you can upgrade.
4. Grocery - welcome to OS - when you get a chance - do a freezer and storecupboard inventory - plan your meals to use what you already have - there are plenty of threads about stretching meals to go further, menu planning, filling the freezer and feeding a family on £20 etc - check out the index
We moved last year - inherited a house with woodchip on the ceilings, and with a prevous owner - having a pet which hadnt been bathed for years - still getting rid of the doggy smell now. Our carpets are original 1970's shagpile!. Money has been really tough - which is how i ended up here.
I wish you all the very best - its do-able as long as you pace yourself and dont try to do too much at once. Roping in willing family members to help on the weekends can be a good idea.
