Hi can someone tell me if my husband can claim a tax allowance for the cleaning of his work uniform? He's a delivery driver and whilst out on his round this morning he overheard a binman telling someone else that he claims 400 off his tax for the cleaning of his uniform! I suspect it's a urban myth but if not we'll give it a try!

Not an urban myth - there are several threads on here relating to this topic.
if he is required to wear a uniform and to clean it himself, then he can claim an allowance for this. HMRC website has a list of fixed rate deductions if you search on that website. if his trade is not shown there, then its up to him to make a case for how much it costs him annually to clean the uniform. he just writes to his tax office to make the claim.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
I have just been allocated a tax allowance for washing my own uniform (nurse). Claiming it was surprisingly simple - I just phoned the tax office and the person I spoke to applied it to my account! However it is nowhere near 400!0
