Linda if you do find out this recipe then that would be great.

I really miss the type of rolls you get in Scotland - Tesco sometimes do them in packs of six but I would love to be able to make them myself.

  • Morning rolls, I think, is what we called them in Glasgow. My mum always takes some down south for my aunt when she goes to visit.

I thought rowies were butteries? My m.i.l MSE Grunnie will help us with the roll language when she reads this post, lol.

I would love to try a BM recipe too if anyone finds one.

I'm from central scotland..a scottish roll to me is a big white fluffy filled roll, great with bacon!

I am also in rural scotland and if you google for scottish morning rolls - lots of recipes there - I prefer rolls made from proper yeast so do it in kenwood - you can get yeast free from Asda bread counter!

Best of all are our rowies or aberdeen rolls, butter rolls or butteries they can be called too. Very fattening but lovely toasted with jam! yum

  • Linda: I am also looking for traditional Scottish fluffy rolls recipe, did you have any luck? Please note, this is not a request for Scottish Baps. I know from a baker that these traditional rolls have only about 1 oz of flour per roll and baked in the hottest setting on your oven; the first rising should triple in size; however, I do not have any other info (I have no clue on how much yeast/lard to use to make them fluffy. If anyone else out there can help, it would be much appreciated....
