Barclays Partner Finance

Wasnt sure which forum to put this question on so please move it not in the right one.

Has anyone else experienced this with Barclays Partner Finance -

A friend of mine has just had 7k taken from there bank account by Barclays Partner Finance, they have had no previous dealings with this company, no loans, no credit card companies.

The umbudsman is currently investigating it and we should know today but how the hell can this happen? I'm guessing maybe some kind of identity fraud?

Never heard of them, but did a quick google and came up with this:

Barclays Partner Finance - the new name of Clydesdale Financial Services and Barclaycard Motor Loans, PO Box 3979, GLASGOW G51 1YL

7k seems about right for a new car so it may be that - has your friend been in touch with them and did they say what the transaction was on his account? He should probably make a written complaint if he hasn't already done so.

  • Ok the ombudsman has vistied that company and it gets more interesting and i still dont totally understand it but ill try and explain - although ill warn you now this is scary!

Barclays Partner Finance have created a loan with my friendsname, the loan figure was paid to itself (barclays finance Company) they took 7k out of there bank straight away and have a delayed mandate to take a further 350 per month for the next 6 years.

The ombudsmen has been to the company today and there is no paperwork for this transaction so it is totally fictious by the company and they have given the company 7 days to pay the money back to my friend otherwise it will have to go to court which will take upto 9 months! The ombudsman said they are desperatly trying to shut this company down and it is nothing to do with barclays bank.

They said that if this company had just taken the delayed payments rather than this bulk amount then they would not have been able to look into the case and my friend would have been liable for the debt.

If they dont pay my friend back then she has to refuse payment of the monthly figure which will put a black mark on her credit history until the whole mess is sorted it.

In this day and age i cant believe something like this can happen and it's heart stoppingly shocking!

How the beeb did they get your friend's account details?

Surely he would have been able to just close the account and reclaim the money they took through the courts if FOS couldn't help?

I would get straight on the Trading Standards as well as Barclays. They appear to be using barclays logo (not sure if that one's copyright) so i would hope their fraud or legal department would get involved.

Make sure she sends a letter to the bank to stop the payments for that 'debt' by recorded delivery so that she has proof that they received her isnstructions.

I have my car loan with Barclays Partner Finance, and have recently set up a DMP which they agreed to accept reduced payments on. Have to say i've had no problems with them at all.
