Blenders

Hey,
Anybody use blenders to make their own stuff? I'm thinking of getting one so I can just use it to add some extra ingredients to my protein shake. And also sometimes I haven't had all my fruit so before it goes out of date it'd be cool to make a smoothie.
I read mens health on the trainand they recommend ones that are like £200 that can blend seeds and nuts etc.
I wouldn't mind being able to blend seeds and nuts but I'm sure there must be cheaper ones as the MH demographic isn't really for the cheap students I guess.
So just wondered if anyone could recommend me any deals, or products they've used, thanks.
I've not got the greatest funds so thats why i was hoping the users of MSE might be able to point me towards a bargain!
Thanks

I`m guessing it is the Bamix recommended by MH? I have one and love it but the Braun stick blender I had before it from Argos did a pretty ok job for the money. Decide whether you want a stick blender or one with a goblet then compare them for price/power/accesories......don`t forget as well as smoothies you can wizz up lovely home made from those last few bendy carrots and other left over veg in the fridge at the end of week.0

Sorry, tried a quick google, but couldn't find the difference between them two types of blenders. I never knew anything about them so not sure what I'm looking at or comparing. What is a stick blender and what is a goblet blender?0 -
have u looked at the magic bullet (there are also generic brands of it) on ebay... its not cheap more like around £30 but will do everything u want AND grind nuts and ice cubes as well

Here is a link to the choice of blenders at Argos..
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?pp=Show+all&s=Price%3A+Low+-+High&x=28&y=8&storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001801&langId=-1&q=BLENDER
A stick blender you will use with a container/pan and the other sort have a jug that attaches to the motor. A stick blender would be ideal to add fruit to your protein shakes, and you can whizz up home made soup in the saucepan. Lots reviews on the Argos site and should be something to suit your budget.0 -
I always look at offeroftheday to check out prices. Blenders are also great for using up bits of veg to make soup0

I got a great blender from Amazon for £7! You don't need to spend loads to get a decent one - this is the one I got - it was reduced at the time though http://www.amazon.co.uk/Russell-14449-Collection-Blender-capacity/dp/B001EHEZDQ/ref=sr_1_32?ie=UTF8&qid=1249677942&sr=8-320
