thanks, your right I am already feeling the benefit of taking antibiotics and ibuprofen, less sensitive within 18 hours of starting, its been like this for 3 months I should have gone sooner, but now I'm just grateful if they can numb it and sort it out, I am right in thinking this isn't it though and I will need a root canal probably arn't I ? I think the dentist plans to open it up and see whats going on inside first though?0

Sounds like a root treatment is likely, yes it would be easier if you had gone earlier but that doesn't mean it has to be hard now. Inflamed nerves are hard to numb, but once settled they are the same as any other. Dont forget you can carry on taking your ibuprofen right up to the time of the appointment.thanks, your right I am already feeling the benefit of taking antibiotics and ibuprofen, less sensitive within 18 hours of starting, its been like this for 3 months I should have gone sooner, but now I'm just grateful if they can numb it and sort it out, I am right in thinking this isn't it though and I will need a root canal probably arn't I ? Im 21 and I am so scared of the dentist. My mother never took me to the dentist or encouraged me to brush my teeth as a child so as a result when I was 12 I had about 8 teeth removed. I hated it and was in so much pain for weeks I was having nightmares for months after. Last year I got to the point where I realised that I HAD to start going to the dentist. It took me 9 months to find a NHS dentist and went for a check up last night.
I need -
8 x Composite fillings
1 x Root Canal filling
3 x Amalgam fillings
2 x Extractions
This is going to be done over 4/5 appointments. I know I need it done. I brush my teeth 2 sometimes 3 times a day. I do not smoke. I just can't believe I need so much work and I have let my teeth get like this.
Has anybody else been in a similar situation?
Thanks,
Splicecom
The exact same thing happened to me a couple years ago so totally sympathise with you. My parents were always too soft about giving me too many sweets and not brushing etc. I only realised the damage when i went to the dentist at 20 and i needed 2 bottom teeth out, and needed 8 fillings too.
Have to admit i brush and floss my teeth all the time now and am teaching my kids the good habits. Im paying the price now though for something that i should have been taught as a child and has so far cost me a good £400.
hope your treatment goes ok for you! try not to be scared of the dentist, they are there to help you the best they can0 -
I, too, was terrified of dentists. It hasn't done me any favours and by the end of this year I will only have 13 of my own teeth left. Not good at my age (31) but by avoiding the dentists it has aggravated the situation.
Go in there expecting the very worst possible pain imaginable. Be scared, cry a little bit if you like, but don't put it off. If you go in expecting the worst, you will be a lot happier when the worst doesn't happen!
Do you suffer with toothache? Are you a bit scared of needles? Well compare day after day after day of toothache with a few minutes of "sharp scratches" and you'll see dentists aren't so bad.
My little brother (RIP kid) used to ridicule me because he's seen me faint and have panic attacks just for seeing a needle in passing. My last dentist got me over that irrational fear, even though other clients called him "The Butcher" One occasion after passing out while having a blood tesat, I came round and asked the nurse if I was at the dentists lol.
Honestly, they're not so bad, and anything has to be better than having toothache.
Gladly, I'm going to be asleep for my next extractions so I won't feel a thing, but I won't be worried about the operation, thanks to the dentist!Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)0
