Am I entitled to complain?

Lately I have noticed that their milk goes off before the use by date. Usually when it does I normally have to throw away only a little bit in the bottom of a one pint container. I have been buying my milk separately in M&S as theirs never seems to.

However last time I bought some from Tescos (as I coudlnt be bothered to queue up separately just for milk in another store) I bought a large 2 pint container on Saturday as I wanted to use this in cooking and hot milk drinks. The use by date on this is 9th August. This morning I got up and made myself a brew. Despite smelling ok when i poured it in the tea it was clear it had gone off. FIVE days before they said.

I want to take this back to them as I do not find it acceptable. Does anyone here think that they will get funny with me or am I entitled to complain about something I bought which was not up to standard?Do I have a leg to stand on in cases like this?

Are you sure your fridge is OK? It's just that the last time this happened to me my fridge was on the way out and not getting cold enough, especially the door section - nothing else seemed to be particularly affected but milk was very susceptible to this temperature change.

I recently had a problem with some milk that I had bought from Tesco but since I only go there once a week at the most, I was not inclined to make a special journey to take it back and did not particularly want it hanging around the house. I phoned my local store and they asked me for some details from my receipt (date, reference number etc,), and then told me not to worry about actually returning the product as it would be even more "off" by the time I took it back - just dispose of it, they said and come come to the Customer Service desk with your receipt - we will have a record of your call and will be pleased to refund your money. I have always found Tesco to be very understanding with highly perishable goods that unfortunately need to be returned for one reason or another. When I went in 5/6 days later, they got our their "little black book" and there was a record of my phone call! They offered me the return of my money or a replacement item - the choice was mine.

I always buy 3 four pinta bottles when I go shopping and I've never had the milk go off, even okay a day or so after it's best before date.

I do have a problem with Tesco's cheese though (branded packs not own make) and often open a packet to find it green. I don't care if I am not going back for a week I keep it and get a replacement as I'm not wasting a few quid.

If you ring to report it ask them what page they have put it on in their book as they often claim they can't find a record of your call.

It all depends when you open it, once opened it starts going off, i think 3 days is the recommended time, I just go on smell.
My ex had a problem with this, usually ham has a decent use by date, he always insisted that it should be fine up to that date, til i pointed out it also stated 'use with in 3 days of opening'
just for the record i don't always go by the use by/best before date, my eyes and nose tell me all i need to know :D
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D

I agree about the fridge possibly being the problem, started happening to me and sure enough it was the fridge.
