I've just wrote a letter to send. I'm basically saying, tell me what I owe for or you're getting nothing.
I'm hoping this doesn't go to court. My partner tells me it would cost them more in solicitor fees. And by the sounds of it, the Uni is really broke. Which doesn't surprise me, the teaching is a shambles.Debts to date: A&L Loan: Paid Off!, :TMMU:Paid Off!, :T

At the top of your letter (above Dear sirs) include the phrase 'I do not acknowledge any debt to your company'. The fact that you have possibly acknowledged it verbally is not an issue with regard to statute barred debts (thats where they can no longer chase after 6years if you tell them your are not going to pay- this isn't relevant now but could be in 2years time!).
I would be fairly certain that they cannot report this on your credit report at the moment as you will not have had a consumer credit agreement with them. If they take you to court for a CCJ then that debt would appear on your credit report.
Ask them for a full breakdown of the items/ charges they claim you owe.
If the debt can be proved and you want to make a repayment plan offer then do this in writing as well - you want to have as much evidence as possible for a potential court case that you were behaving reasonably and they were not.
Keep copies of all letters you send & receive. Make a note of what was said on any phone calls (and try not to speak to them by phone in future).
If you have any records of issues with the college courses being cancelled then assemble those - also consider if there were any other fellow students who might back you up with regards to this.

Anyone who previously posted about their debt recieved anything yet? I sent my letter beginning of last week and heard nothing so far. Just wondered if the lady with the £3000+ had heard anything.Debts to date: A&L Loan: Paid Off!, :TMMU:Paid Off!, :T
