Quit...? or Move...?

I'm desperate to move house and we're currently in the process of decluttering our flat to prepare to sell. It's not a very quick thing though as there are some minor renovations to do to make it saleable, and there is some complicated legal paperwork to get to grips with before we can sell... that's disregarding finding a new property, which we haven't started yet
My problem is my crummy job. It has recently been changed to allow me to do more of the stuff I'm interested in, and they've hired someone part-time to do the jobs I hated. This all sounds good up to the point where no-one wants to give me a new contract with my job description on it, let alone a change in salary.
Sooo.... I want to get a better job. The recent additions to my role should give me some groovy stuff to put on my CV, so I'm hopeful I can get something that pays a few k more at least.
My question is... how much of an impact will having a new job have on a mortgage application? I have 6 years' history with my current employer. My partner earns around 10k more than me but we won't be able to get a big enough mortgage on his salary alone.
Should I stick out the cr@ppy job until we finally sort out the flat? Or risk the mortgage and go for something better?

We moved when OH had been in a job only a few months. It wasn't a problem as long as he had a continuous record of employment.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
