When the baby is born you will be able to claim child support, not before.
Once the baby is born it will open doors to many more benefits, child benefit, child tax credits, income support, LHA and council tax benefit.
Have you approached the council about a house?I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!0 -
yes iam on the waiting list for a 1 bed flat at the moment.0

Agree with the above comments
As soon as you can after the baby is born get onto the csa. They will (hopefully) get the ball rolling with regards to child support payments from the child's father.
Usual advice applies when dealing with the csa...don't deal with them over the phone! Deal with them in writing only and keep copies of everything.
If you feel that it is required, send your letters by recorded delivery.
As you are PWC, you may feel that recorded delivery is not essential. In my experience, admittedly not as a PWC, recorded delivery is a must.

There's some sort of family law judgement somewhere, the name of which escapes me just now, which allows you to claim for things that you need for your child. I think it's something to do with a thing called "Butterworths family law". I've only seen it actioned once, but the person concerned claimed money for a pram and a cot over and above child support. Go and see your local Citizen's advice and see what they know about it.0

A sure start grant gives you £500.I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!0 -
No, it wasn't the surestart. It was extra payments that you could claim from the parent not bringing up the child, over and above CSA.0

Sadly there is little you can do until the new one comes along, even then 15% may not see the two of you in a life of 'luxury' and things will still be a struggle.
Not sure if things may differ with your ex being in Scotland.
Good luck with the pregnancy.0 -
Hi i'm also pregnant and just split with my ex. Unfortunately they don't have to give us anything yet, as the others have said.
However i did want to mention (i'm sure you already know though), but you can have the Health in Pregnancy Grant (£190) from 25 weeks pregnant (you'd have got this either way) and the SureStart Grant (£500) from 29 weeks (you wouldn't have got this if living with him as he's working).
When baby is born you'll get £20 a week child benefit, £60 a week (ish) child tax credit, plus whatever benefits you're on (income support if lone parent at £64-ish a week).
It's not a lot but you'll also qualify for full housing (if rent is reasonable & correct size place) and council tax benefit, plus don't forget to claim the Healthy Start Vouchers (you should get £3.10 p.w now, and £6.20 when baby is born).
I'm not sure if CSA payments would affect the amount of housing benefit you get.
Sorry i know you didn't ask any of this, and i'm sure you already knew all of it, but just didn't want you missing out on anything as it's not always clear what you get.0 -
